Common Troubleshooting

🔌 Dongle Not Detected

Symptoms: App shows "Disconnected" even when dongle is plugged in.

Solutions:

  1. Unplug and re-plug the dongle into your iPhone
  2. Force-quit the QuickPort Terminal app and relaunch it
  3. Try a different USB-C cable or port (if using a hub)
  4. Restart your iPhone
  5. Check for iOS updates in Settings
  6. If using a hub, try direct connection to iPhone

Note: "Disconnected" is normal when no dongle is attached. Only troubleshoot if the status doesn't change after plugging in.

📡 No Data Received from Target

Symptoms: Terminal is connected but you don't see any data from your device.

Solutions:

  1. Verify TX and RX pins are swapped: Dongle RX → Target TX, Dongle TX → Target RX
  2. Check that baud rate, parity, and stop bits match your target device
  3. Confirm your target device is powered on and transmitting
  4. Verify voltage levels are compatible (3.3V logic)
  5. Try a loopback test: connect dongle TX to RX — you should see characters echo back
  6. Check ground connection between dongle and target

Voltage Level Issues

Symptoms: Garbled data, intermittent connection, or no communication.

Solutions:

  1. Confirm your target device uses 3.3V logic
  2. If your device uses 5V (e.g., classic Arduino), use a bi-directional level shifter
  3. Check voltage with a multimeter if uncertain
  4. Consult your target device's datasheet

Warning: Connecting 5V signals directly to the dongle may damage it. Always verify voltage compatibility.

🔄 Firmware Update Issues

Symptoms: Firmware update fails or gets stuck.

Solutions:

  1. Ensure iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi and has battery > 50%
  2. Keep the dongle plugged in during the update
  3. Do not close the app or lock the screen during update
  4. If update fails, restart iPhone and try again
  5. Contact support if update fails repeatedly

📱 App Crashes or Freezes

Symptoms: App becomes unresponsive or crashes.

Solutions:

  1. Force-quit the app and relaunch
  2. Restart your iPhone
  3. Check for app updates in the App Store
  4. Free up storage space if device is nearly full
  5. Reinstall the app if problems persist
